How does it work?

HIFU works like a magnifying glass and sunlight. With a magnifying glass you can focus the sunlight and generate burning heat. HIFU focuses several individual beams of ultrasound and increases the temperature inside the cells. Individual beams that pass the body are harmless and the temperatures start rising only at the focal point where the beams meet.

What does it do?

Low levels of heat generated by HIFU stimulate the skin cells to produce more collagen and rejuvenate tissue. As a result the skin is tighter and looks younger.

HIFU is also capable of producing high levels of heat (up tp 80° C), killing the targeted cells without damaging the surrounding areas. What does the treatment feel like?

When using HIFU for rejuvenation of the skin, the person will feel a warm sensation in the skin. Some people experience a tingling feeling while others might feel a slight discomfort, depends on each person. Also some areas of the face might be a bit numb or extra sensitive after the procedure.

Patients who have used Liposonix experience similar sensations but also mild pain. The discomfort is reduced by consuming oral pain medications before the procedure.

Temporary post-procedure discomforts might include redness, bruising, tingling sensation or numbness, and swelling.

What result can I expect?

Although some clients claim to notice a change right after finishing the treatment, it takes usually 2 to 3 months to see the actual effects of HIFU. The stimulated cells need time to produce collagen and work on lifting and tightening the skin. The results will last up to 9 months and depend on many factors like diet, lifestyle,and the amount of pre-existing collagen.

How long is the recovery time?

What precautions should I take after the procedure?

Avoid extreme cold and heat.
Moisturize and use sunscreen.
Drink more water than usual.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine (48 h).
Don’t use skin products that may irritate the skin (24 h).

How often do I need to repeat the procedure?

With HIFU the results of one procedure last up to 9 months, so the treatment should be repeated after every 9 months or at least once a year.
